New services coming up to EOSC-Core

EOSC_Future_banner_new_services

The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) forms an ecosystem of research data and related services that enable and enhance access and reuse of FAIR research outputs (i.e., data and other digital objects).

EOSC Future is one of the main H2020 funded projects that will steer the implementation of the EOSC Core development in collaboration with the other funded EOSC-related projects in the landscape (including the regional projects, the cluster projects, FAIRsFAIR, the INFRAEOSC-07-2020 projects, OCRE, etc.).

In particular, EOSC Future will establish a multi-lateral Collaboration Agreement with the EOSC-related projects financed under the H2020 INFRAEOSC-07-2020 call because these projects starting from January 2021 have the mandate to enhance the EOSC Core with additional resources and services and to contribute to widening the uptake of EOSC and its related resources at large.

Five projects have been funded in the INFRAEOSC-07-2020 call with the following mandate:

  • C-SCALE will enhance the EOSC Portal with pan-European federated data and computing infrastructure services for Copernicus.
  • DICE will provide cutting-edge data management services and a significant amount of storage resources for the EOSC.
  • EGI-ACE will deliver the EOSC Compute Platform and contribute to the EOSC Data Commons through a federation of Cloud compute and storage facilities, PaaS services and data spaces with analytics tools and federated access services.
  • OpenAIRE-Nexus will integrate into EOSC a set of scholarly communication services that will assist in publishing research, monitoring its impact and helping promote its discovery.
  • RELIANCE will extend the research-enabling capabilities of EOSC with an enhanced support for multidisciplinary research, particularly in Earth Science, aligned with the EOSC Interoperability Framework.
  • One common denominator of these projects is the enhancement of the EOSC Portal with new resources. The table below shortly describes the offering

C-SCALE

C-SCALE will federate compute and data resources from the Copernicus DIAS, the national Collaborative Ground Segments and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) towards a European open source Big (Copernicus) Data Analytics platform:

  • Storage services: up to 12 PB
  • Cloud services: up to 17,728,500 CPU hours
  • HPC/HTC services: up to 3,100,000 CPU hours
  • GPU services: up to 6,000 GPU hours

DICE

DICE makes available a set of data management services (and associated resources) for researchers and research communities from any scientific domain including:

  • Data archives (up to 25 PB)
  • Policies based data archives (up to 17 PB)
  • Personal and project workspaces (up to 5 PB)
  • Data repository services for data sharing (up to 8 PB)
  • Data discovery services (with PID and DOI services and metadata harvesting)

EGI-ACE

EGI-ACE will deliver the EOSC Compute Platform and will contribute to the EOSC Data Commons. Services offered include: compute and storage resources, compute platform services, data management services and related user support and training.

The total capacity that EGI-ACE makes available through the call between 2021-2023 is:

  • 80,000,000 CPU hours
  • 250,000 GPU hours
  • 20 PB storage

Open-AIRE Nexus

  • support to Argos DMP service by drafting discipline specific DMPs, Horizon Europe DMP support
  • set your own community research gateway (connect.openaire.eu) and Zenodo communities
  • access open science metrics for your projects, institution, community
  • service to anonymise your data and comply with GDPR
  • support and mentoring on Horizon Europe open access mandates

RELIANCE

RELIANCE project provides three core services for Research Lifecycle Management within the EOSC environment.

  • The first service is based on Research Object (RO) technology and its repository called ROHub (www.rohub.org) . Research Objects provide scientists with a standardized mechanism to encapsulate and structure coherently all resources associated with their studies: data, bibliography, workflows, results and publications. Having such a clear information structure is the key to facilitate the exchange of information across the scientific community.

  • Reliance second resource is the service for Text Enrichment and Mining. This is a service which automatically extracts valuable information and metadata from bibliographic sources and other text documents, such as technical reports, field notes or presentations. This allows scientists to continuously update and enrich their bibliographic and research materials

  • Datacube technology for Earth Observation (EO) data management is the third service provided by Reliance. It is based on the ADAM platform. – www.adamplatform.eu . This is a technology enabling efficient access to extensive collections of multi-temporal and multi-dimensional EO imagery, also allowing interoperability among the different information layers. This is critical for scientists whose computers’ main memories could not be capable to store and process multi-terabyte data.
